One to One Evangelism
What makes one to one evangelism effective is because you get to talk with individuals. One to One witnessing allows an individual to freely talk and ask questions. Total strangers may be willing to open up to you (Christians) about personal struggles such as addictions or any other problems or sins that they are dealing with, once they realize that you are concerned about their eternal salvation. This opens up a way for Christians to share their testimony of how they came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The believer can share that we all have a sin problem, we all broken God’s Laws (Ten Commandments) and are guilty criminals who will end up in hell if they receive God’s justice. The believer is in need of God’s grace and forgiveness so they will not end up in hell. Then the believer can tell the individual that in order to receive God’s forgiveness and hope of eternal life in heaven they must repent (confess their sin to God and turn from sin) and trust that God sent Jesus who was perfect without sin, fully God and fully man to die on the cross for the sins of the world and was buried and rose again the third day.
It is easy to get into a conversation about the gospel. Showing a person that you care about them only takes a few seconds. Be kind, smile and show warmth while you talk to a person. You can easily get things going by giving a person a gospel tract. Whenever a person pauses after you give a person the gospel tract you can ask them one of several questions:
- What happens when a person dies?
- If you died today would you go to heaven or hell?
- Do you have a Christian background?
- What does a person have to do to get to heaven?
- Who deserves to go to hell?
- Who do you think God is?
You can start a conversation about what is in the news. It is easy to move a conversation into the gospel it will just take some courage.
When talking to family giving your testimony may be the easiest way to get to the gospel. When using your testimony make sure that you include the following:
- Law
- Judgment
- Grace
- Repentance
- Faith
If you do not include these important points you will end up confusing people about how they can get to heaven.
A game that a friend introduced me to is called the “Gospel Game”. You can play this by yourself or others and you pick a topic or an object and try to get to the gospel from that topic or object. This is a good game to help you to practice getting to the gospel.
